Okay! Another excellent Wednesday night at ROOTS NYC, where people from all over the Tri-State Area came to Cielo to see the King of Gospel House, Kenny Bobien perform all of greatest hits from his upcoming compilation, Defined: The Definitive Collection 1994-2005, where he performed his classics, “I Shall Not Be Moved” and “Father,” to his recent “Old Landmark,” to his brand new single, “The Light.” Kenny definitely gave all of his fans a superb performance of a lifetime.
Speaking of superb performances, there were also superb sets, as well. DJ Beloved rocked the opener to an already packed house, and the place just opened when I got there. It was also Bang the Drum meets Libation last night when DJs Jihad Muhammed and Ian Friday got on the decks, giving the huge crowd more to sweat to.
It was also a house full of DJs and artists alike who came to witness this event, people such as Tony Touch, Barbara Tucker, Miss Patty, Johnny Dangerous, Cassio Ware, Eddie Nicholas, Mikki Afflick (who said she had to pin her wig down last night, the party was so amazing), Master Kev, Kev Kruz of Mecca Digital Hi-Fi, Ruben Toro, Adam Rios, Darryl D’Bonneau, the lovely Stephanie Cooke and fun-spirited choreographer Marjory Smarth, who told me she will see what the night will bring her and wound up dancing all over Cielo last night.
It was a totally crowded night full of friends, family and Jersey heads. Whether they had to pin that wig down or just let loose altogether, it was definitely a night to remember. Thanks to Roots NYC, Kevin Hedge, DJ Beloved, Jihad Muhammed, Ian Friday, and all the wonderful people who came out last night to give me something to write about and a special thanks to Kenny Bobien for uplifting everyone’s spirits with his voice, energy and music!
