Rap Legend Heavy D Passes at 44

Another sad day in hip-hop. Our favorite overweight lover, Heavy D (born Dwight Arrington Myers), has passed away earlier this afternoon. The cause of his death is unknown.

Originally from Mount Vernon, New York, he was from a time when hip-hop was fun and entertaining. He was known for his smooth and fun lyrics, his energetic dancing and a string of #1 hits underneath his belt, such as “The Overweight Lover’s In The House”, “Now That We Found Love”, “We Got Our Own Thang”, and “Nuttin’ But Love”. He performed the opening theme to the hit comedy sketch show, In Living Color and acted on the big and small screens with shows like The Tracy Morgan Show, Living Single, Law & Order: SVU and Tales From The Crypt. His movies included The Cider House Rules, Big Trouble and the new Eddie Murphy comedy flick, Tower Heist. Heavy D just performed at the Michael Jackson Tribute Concert in Wales on October 8th.

The 44-year-old MC has been rushed to an L.A. hospital at 12 Noon, after a 911 call was made from his Beverly Hills home around 11:25 AM. When help arrived, Heavy D was conscious and speaking and then rushed to the hospital afterwards, where he was pronounced dead at 1PM. The police are still investigating, but rules out foul play.

His last words on Twitter was for everyone to be inspired…and we should continue to do so.

Condolences goes out to the friends and family of Heavy D.

Thank you, Heavy, for your huge contribution to hip hop. You will be missed.
