Fania Records often referred to, as the “Motown” of Latin music, is proud to announce The Armada Fania Club & Pop-Up Store happening from May 22-25 at The 1896 in Brooklyn, NY located off the L train at Jefferson. This four-night event combines an intimate and beautiful pop-up store experience filled with Fania’s famed catalog and merchandise (from vinyl and CDs to tees, DVDs, apparel and more) and a club with an all-star lineup of DJs mixing original and remix sounds of Latin Soul, Funk, Boogaloo, Salsa and more!
Fania Records has also just announced that they are partnering with the hit web series called East WillyB. The entire cast will be making an appearance on May 22nd during the opening night, where they will screen the most recent episode of the series. After the screening the cast will sign posters as a part of the pop-up shop. The main character Willie Jr. (Flaco Navaja) will be performing a classic Fania hit on Friday night as part of the continuing recording of the series. East WillyB chronicles the adventures of Bushwick Sports Bar owner Willie Jr., and his motley crew of bar regulars, as they deal with the trials and tribulations of living in an ever-changing Brooklyn. Named the “Latino Show for the New Generation,” by the New York Times, East WillyB is a fresh new comedy, which explores the humors and tensions when cultures collide in the face of gentrification. – See more at: www.eastwillyb.com
The headlining DJs for each night ranges from the legendary Louie Vega, whose new album as his live project Elements of Life – Eclipse is out now on Fania and is the label’s first new artist album in years to famed mixtape maestro Tony Touch to global bass pioneers Que Bajo (aka Gecko Jones and Uproot Andy) to Puerto Rican Super DJ Duo D’Marquesina. Also performing is a who’s who of DJs in the Latin/Global Bass scene ranging from DJ Turmix, Whiskey Barons, Rice & Beans Soundsystem, DNGR GRDN, DJ Wasabi, DJ Canyon Cody, and Foglia.
