Saturday night was the mother of all parties in The Panther Room, located in Brooklyn hotspot, Output in North Williamsburg. If you don’t know much about the BEMBE party, here is a little summary of it:
BEMBE is a monthly event created by its resident DJ/producer Carlos Mena in 2007 and it specifically focused on world and afro-house. Special guest DJs such as Karizma and Louie Vega have graced the party, as well as the decks, with their presence, but last night was indeed a special night. Alongside on the decks with Carlos Mena was the lovely Sabine Blazin spinning some sweet afro-treats and legendary DJ/producer Osunlade, who played all of his hits that spanned nearly 20 years of his career (…that I know of thus far. I’m still a baby, you know.)
Noted producers Frankie Felicano, The Martinez Brothers, and Sole Channel’s Miss Patty were in attendance for this jam (and people) packed event. Even poet/hip-hop artist Oveous came to the booth and belted out a few verses as the music played. It was literally a drum banging hell of a time and I would like to thank resident DJ Carlos Mena, Sabine Blazin and Osunlade for sharing their gift of music with the rest of the world.
Let’s aim for the main room next time.
