The cast of the 1979 cult flick, The Warriors, decided to once again take that long ride on the Coney Island bound Q train. I was only a year old runt when this was released, but that hasn’t stopped me from watching it when I came of age.
To all of you grasshoppers out there not familiar with the movie, it was all about the streets, respect and survival when a turf battle between New York City street gangs rages from Coney Island to the Bronx. The Warriors are mistakenly accused for the killing of Cyrus, a respected gang leader who wanted all the gang members borough wide to call a truce and make peace with one another. Soon they have every gang in the city out to get revenge and they must make their way across the city to their own turf. The movie became an inspiration and an instant classic to all street gangs and pop culture fans alike.
RollingStone.com captured Michael Beck (Swan), David Harris (Cochise), Dorsey Wright (Cleon), Terry Michos (Vermin) and Thomas G. Waites (Fox) as they rode the Q Train to Coney Island Sept. 13 for a fan-organized event near Luna Park. If you are a die-hard fan of the movie like me, this will be something to remember. Can you dig it?
