To have something that is a true vintage you have to have something that was a true original. – Cari Zalloni, Creator of Cazal Eyewear.
Cazal is one of the world’s true upscale, eyewear collections. Created in 1975 by renowned designer Cari Zalloni, for whom the brand takes it namesake, Cazal frames have always been designed to be unique, unmistakable works of art. Always daring to be different, Cazal’s creativity and uncompromising quality remain at the pinnacle of modern eyewear.
Cazals are not made to be just a “pair of glasses”, but rather they are created for the person who has high fashion standards and a desire for originality. Designed and manufactured in Passau, Germany, each model is a masterpiece of design using exquisite materials and unparalleled precision. The attention to color is obvious through brilliant hand colorations that are exclusive to Cazal. Adornments are done by hand on each frame and include a combination of syringes, airbrushes, stencils, color baths, glitter, stones, acetates, glass, and lacquer inlays. High quality galvanization and lacquer protects from corrosion, scratching, and loss of color.
Cazal first obtained its popularity in the early 1980’s when it was embraced by inner city youths who quickly deemed the bold, gold trimmed, large zyl designs as “status eyewear”. Referred to as “Cazal Fever”, the collection became a sensation throughout the fashion world and was seen on the faces of such iconic legends as Run DMC, Sammie Davis Junior, Stevie Wonder and was mentioned in Michael Jackson’s video for the song “Bad”.
Having been among the most coveted cult accessories for decades now, the worldwide demand for these retro styles has hit a fever pitch reminiscent of “Cazal Fever” in the 80’s. Recently, Cazal Legends styles have been sought out and worn by a whole new generation of celebrities. Jay Z, Beyonce, Bruno Mars, Usher, Kanye West, Lady Gaga, Will Smith, Sean “Puffy” Combs, Brad Pitt, Will I Am, Fergie, Ne-Yo, James, Harden, Rhianna, Gwen Stefani, Snoop Lion, Rick Ross, Flo Rida, Cee Lo, Nelly, Meek Mill, Wale, Carmelo Anthony, James Harden, Nas, Spike Lee, and many more have all been photographed wearing these legendary models.
Presently comprising the Cazal Legends Collection are the 163, 607, 607/2, 616, 623, 627, 642, 643, 644, 873, 905, and 958. Each style is identical to the originals and is made from the same tools, hardware, plastic colors, and factory equipment that first constructed the originals over 25 years ago. In addition, new interpretations of the classics include hybrids such as the 656, 659, 670, 672, 680, 6004, 8021, 8022, and 8026.
On May 5th, Cazal will be celebrating their 40th Anniversary with a 40 Years of Cazal: a history of the iconic frames as well as a debut of their Spring 2016 eye-wear Collection.
