Peep Show: Emilio Cavallini Fall 2012

This season for Fashion Week, designer Emilio Cavallinni creates something for the grown and sexy with his provocative hosiery presentation at Lincoln Center, looking into the world of voyeurism.

Emilio Cavallini launched his label over 40 years ago in Italy, combining his passion for art and pop culture with cutting edge technology.

“When I started my company in 1970, I was intrigued by the idea of pulling hosiery out of anonymity and into a ‘garment.'” He says. “Miniskirts expose so much of the leg that tights are an integral part of any outfit, for the leg makes up more than 30% of a head-to-toe look.”

His presentation, justly named Risque Business, focuses on women who enjoy taking risks with their fashion choices, giving inspiration for his collection to 50’s pin-up queen Bettie Page.

“Bettie Page was the ultimate femme fatale,” he explains. “She incites the fantasies of men…and women…at a time when ‘nice girls’ wouldn’t dare to look or act like that.”

Tattoo motifs, optical graphics, 3D effects and animal prints are just some parts of the highlights of the show. Some with coordinating tank tops and “borrowed form the boys” styles with patters of plaid, chevron, houndstooth and argyle.

Along with the presentation is the short film, Risque Business, about a free-spirited young woman who, on a short vacation in Florence, Italy, retreats to the privacy of her hotel room and tries on every pair of tights and bodywear after shopping from Emilio’s boutique while submitting to the pleasure of her own body. This gives a good look at the upcoming legwear in store for 2012.

His line was featured in Harper’s Bazaar and seen on the legs of many celebs such as Janet Jackson, Naomi Campbell, Liv Tyler and the dancers on Madonna’s Super Bowl performance. So if you are the bad girl with a halo of fire over your head, this collection is definitely for you.
